Plein air painting from above the city of Launceston, the second largest city in Tasmania. This painting was mostly painted outdoors, but some remaining details were added later. The city is situated at the junction of the North Esk and South Esk rivers, where they join to become the Tamar River. Launceston is one of Australia’s oldest cities, and was first settled by Europeans in 1806. The city has many well preserved historic buildings, and rare examples of Victorian, Georgian, and Art Deco architecture.
