The old Volkswagen Beetle is a classic 2 door, rear engine driven car. Volkswagen stopped making them in 2019, bringing a lengthy motoring legacy to an end. The front section of the vehicle serves as a boot or trunk, depending on your preference. One thing that is very noticeable about the old Volkswagen Beetle is the distinctive hum of it’s engine. In 1971 the “Departamento del Distrito Federal” selected it to serve as the standard taxi in Mexico City.
In Mexico the old Volkswagen Beetle is a very popular car, and consequently you can see a bright red one in this painting. The scene is a gently sloping street in Oaxaca, Mexico. The bright lime green and pale blue houses line the sunlit street. Other vehicles straddle the pavement due to the narrowness of the road. Lighting poles lean precariously on oblique angles. An arched wooden doorway provides an entrance to the green building. Overall there are many different elements here. The red house at the end of the street mirrors the color of the beetle in the foreground.
