The Block Arcade Melbourne shops are a unique and unmissable experience, especially if you’re a visitor. The experience dates back as far as the 1870s when this area of Melbourne became a fashionable place to shop. The location is just near the corner of Collins and Elizabeth street in the city. It’s a wide and spacious arcade with high ceilings, and a skylit slanted roof. There are many unique and wonderful shops selling a variety of gifts, handicrafts and food.
In the foreground of this painting is a large pot plant with flowers. People are walking around on the intricately tiled floor, browsing the windows. Lights extend down from the ceiling below the skylight. On the right a glass case houses some heritage artifacts and clothing. Above the shops are some semi-circular windows in the same style as the Royal Arcade. The walls are a pale yellow, but the people are wearing bright blue and turquoise coloured clothing. In the middle of the walkway, are some notice boards, possibly displaying local artwork. Similarly the shop on the left also has a variety of artworks on display.
