The watercolour landscape painting “American car” depicts the outside of the Playa Del Este beach resort. A 1950s deep purple, vintage Dodge is parked near a block sunburnt yellow beach apartments. The chrome trim, hubcaps and automotive shimmer and glint emphatically in the afternoon sun.
The resort borders the gorgeous beach, decorated with palm trees and vibrant Cuban beach-goers. It’s quite an underdeveloped area, nonetheless it’s a hidden gem. Anyone would enjoy strolling through the undiscovered beach frequented by Havana locals.
You can almost feel the cool breeze brushing against the palm trees. Summer days end with picture-perfect sunsets, meandering in a classic vintage American car. Time seems to fade away into the past, and yet still living in the moment. It’s about 18kms from Havana, however it’s well worth the drive.
